CHANDIGARH: Each tremor that followed Saturday's earthquake in Nepal added to their nervousness. For students in Tricity who have family in the neighbouring country, it was an anxious and tragic start to the weekend.
"Though my family is fine, 30% of their apartment has been damaged. I was shocked when I found out about the earthquake. It was a cousin who phoned me and asked me to switch on the news channel," Ankush Jain, a 23-year-old student of PEC University of Technology, said.

Jain, who stays in a hostel, is an Indian whose family is staying in Nepal. "I called my father and he told me that though the building had been damaged, everyone was safe."
Nirajan Shreshtha, who hails from Kathmandu, said he had been numbed by the news. "Contacting family was difficult in the beginning, as only one NDCL network was working properly. I contacted my parents and was relieved to know they were safe," he said. "They all have stepped out of buildings, for now. There are structure that still can collapse because of the damage caused by the first earthquake," Shreshtha said.
The scare of another earthquake hitting the country added to the anxiousness of 22-year-old Anamika Maundara, an engineering student who also hails from Kathmandu. "After the first shock, I got in touch with my family and found that everyone was fine. But it became little difficult to get in touch with them after the second tremor. Thankfully, we are getting updates through Whatsapp and they seem to be doing fine," she said.
